Breaking News: Councilmember Green to Introduce Philadelphia Public Banking Legislation! Take Action NOW!
After years of hard work from many of our allies, we are proud to announce that on Jan. 28th, Councilman Derek Green will introduce legislation to create a Philadelphia Public Bank! Wow: Imagine all the good this could do! (If you want a refresher, just check out this short video.)
But right now, we need your help to push this Philadelphia Public Bank Bill (PPBB) over the finish line.
To build momentum behind the bill, our job is to get all the other Council Members to sign on as co-sponsors for the bill.
Here’s how we’re going to do it –
On Tuesday, Jan 19th, at 5PM, we are going to use a Social Media Storm to get the attention of the other members of City Council, and to tell them why they should lend their names to this great legislation. We need their signatures by Jan 26th, so we have about a week to get them on board.
We’ll start with a brief Public Bank Advocacy Training & Action to get you oriented.
Sign up to learn more about how you can play a part in making this Public Bank a reality!
We’ll send you the toolkit on Tuesday morning for our Advocacy Workshop
If you can’t make the workshop, but you want to help, sign up anyway to guarantee that you’ll get an advance copy of the Bill, along with a Bill Summary that we’ll send to everyone who signs up. We’ll also include the Social Media Toolkit that we’ll be reviewing at our Advocacy Training.
We have roughly one week to help get additional Council support for this bill. The good news is that this should be a pretty easy lift. We’ve already lobbied members on this issue in the past with mainly positive results, so simply making a call/text/Tweet/post will help us to reinforce the importance of this issue in the minds of members of City Council.
We look forward to seeing you on Tuesday evening. Look for an email with details that morning, roughly the same time as members of City Council will be receiving the PPBB. We’ll give lawmakers time to peruse the bill that day and then reach out to them that evening using various media. Thanks so much for being a member of this team! Looking forward to this and many other campaigns for justice going forward.
