With the introduction of legislation by Council member Green to create a Philadelphia Public Bank, now is the time for all of us to do our part in getting the legislation across the finish line. To enable us all to participate fully in that work, the Philadelphia Public Banking Coalition is hosting a Public Banking Visioning Summit on Saturday, September 18th from 1-4 P.M. To view the program agenda, click here.

The purpose of the Summit is to gather community leaders who have a stake in the Philadelphia Public Bank’s creation, provide them with information about the public banking movement, and gather their input into what a public bank can and should mean for our City. Democratizing our money starts with your input!

The bank could be a resource for affordable housing, small businesses, sustainable infrastructure, co-op development, environmental justice, and much more. For this to be a reality, we need public support and input to make sure the bank addresses all these needs. Come to the Summit to hear about the status of the local and national movements for public banking, the particulars of how the Philadelphia Public Bank will work, and where the money to capitalize the bank could come from.

Featuring New Economy movement leaders Amara Enyia and Saqib Bhatti, preeminent public banking expert Walt McRee, Philadelphia Councilmember Derek Green, local hosts Vanessa Lowe and Steve Paul, and many other experts and activists from around the nation, the event will provide valuable perspectives on the intersection of public banking and racial justice.
