Community Action: The People’s Subpoena: Public Banking Coalition Charges the Mayor with Dereliction of Duty
Date: Friday, October 7, 12:00pm
Location: City Hall, City Hall Plaza, NE corner
Come help the Philadelphia Public Banking Coalition serve the People’s Subpoena and charge the scofflaw Mayor Kenney with dereliction of duty on Economic Justice. Click-here if you can join us at City Hall on October 7th at Noon.
As the Mayoral race kicks off and the sitting Mayor continues to just sit on the job, we are sending the message that he cannot violate the laws of this City that call for economic justice. In particular, Mayor Kenney has failed to appoint a board of directors to launch the Philadelphia Public Financial Authority (PPFA). City Council voted 15-1 requiring Kenney to create the PPFA to promote economic development for underserved markets and initiate the creation of a public bank. The mayor is flagrantly violating that legal mandate by blocking the creation of this authority as a precursor to a public bank.
At noon October 7, the Philadelphia Public Bank Coalition & Allies will send a delegation of public bank advocates to the Mayor’s office to deliver charges of law violations for Kenney’s failure to appoint a board of directors to the PPFA. We will also serve James F. Kenney with a People’s Subpoena ordering him to appear before the People’s Economic Forum on November 17, 2022. (You will be hearing details about the Forum soon.)
Come help serve the People’s Subpoena and charge the scofflaw Mayor Kenney with dereliction of duty. Let’s show this city that the People are standing up for economic justice and holding law breaking public officials accountable! Wall Street banks have run away with our money and have redlined our communities for too long. So-called “investors” are extracting wealth and ownership from our neighborhoods while black and brown businesses, cooperatives and other small businesses lack access to credit.
