Citizens’ Subpoena Delivered to Kenney. Next Up: The People’s Economic Forum
Dear Friends of the Philly Public Banking Movement,
This past Friday we aimed to make some noise about Mayor Kenney’s illegal refusal to appoint the Board and release the funds for the Philadelphia Public Financial Authority and we did just that!
Approximately 40 advocates gathered together at City Hall. Led by emcee and former City Council candidate Tonya Bah, we rallied, sang, and called the mayor out for his law breaking which directly contributes to the traumatic state of disinvestment in our Black and brown neighborhoods.
Councilmember Jamie Gauthier joined us to admonish the mayor. “The Mayor’s refusal to nominate a board of directors is undemocratic. The people have spoken, and the City Council has acted. It’s past time for the Mayor to stop preventing progress and put forth candidates.”
At the close of the event we moved into City Hall to serve the Mayor with the People’s Subpoena. True to form, the mayor was not at work, but we delivered it anyway. Enjoy the video of Coalition member Nicole Levy explaining the subpoena to deputy chief of staff Brian Clinton:
See photos of the event below. Check out Saturday’s Philadelphia Inquirer coverage here and look for additional press coverage that will be coming out this week.
Now we need your help to keep the momentum growing!
