Candidate Interviews & Forums

Do you want to know what the candidates for elected office in Philly are thinking about the role of public banking in our city? What are their visions and plans for financing our beloved city and reinvesting in our people and communities?

The Philadelphia Public Banking Coalition is conducting public interviews with candidates this spring. We are  starting with the Mayoral and Controller candidates, inviting them into public conversation with us on our Financing Philadelphia’s Future video platform. Mayoral candidate Helen Gym met with us on February 28 and on March 14 we interviewed Controller candidate Alexandra Hunt – a hearty thank you to both candidates!

You may view the Helen Gym interview here and the Alexandra Hunt interview here. Look forward to our interview with Derek Green on April 11, 5:30-6 pm. We’ll keep you posted as other interviews are scheduled, but all will be recorded and available through the Coalition Youtube channel and website.

In addition to the interviews that our Coalition is holding, there are many Primary forums happening across the city. We are keeping a running list of public forums. If you know of Forums through your networks, send the information to susan@susanwindle.com, and we will add them to the list. We encourage all of us to come forward and press the Mayoral candidates for their position on the Philadelphia Public Financial Authority, voted into law last March as a first step toward a public bank, but stonewalled by Mayor Kenney in June:

Will they get the PPFA up and running and get us on the way to our public bank?

What are their plans for getting Philadelphians’ tax money out of Wall Street and putting it to work for the people of our city?

As for the Council candidates, make sure that public banking is in their ears and on their minds:

What is your position on supporting a Philadelphia public bank that could keep our money at home, working for our people?

There is something for everyone to do in this election season. Get informed. Ask hard questions. Speak out. We need our money in our city!

PS: Coalition member Peter Winslow was recently interviewed on the Sabby Sabs podcast out of Boston.  Enjoy!
